Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?
When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

About malaria
Malaria is a life-threatening parasitic disease caused by Plasmodium species, transmitted through the bite of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes, and remains a major public health challenge in tropical and subtropical regions. It typically presents with recurrent episodes of fever, chills, sweating, headache, body pains, weakness, and in severe cases may lead to anemia, jaundice, seizures, or organ failure such as cerebral malaria. The disease burden is highest among children, pregnant women, and immunocompromised individuals, with rapid progression if left untreated. Salisu was febrile, temperature of 38.0oC.

Background
Salisu is 12 years old, he attends a government primary school where he treks to school about 20-25 minutes away from home. He lives with his parents, his father is a security guard and the mother is a house wife. They live in a 2 rooms apartment, they drink well water and sometimes they cover a distance of about 30 minutes to get borehole water. They're struggling to feed. They could not afford his medical bills. Sirajo was always complaining of headache and abdominal pains, sometimes feeling very weak, he could not do any house chores, and the parents cannot take him to the hospital because of lack of finances. They were informed about Helpster Charity by a beneficiary, and they were asked to visit Wholecare hospital for proper evaluation. Upon presentation at our hospital, he was diagnosed with Malaria.
Medical history
Sirajo-a 12 years old child was admitted to our hospital for 3 days and diagnosed with Malaria fever. He was given some antimalarials injections as well as antibiotics and other supportive medications. On improvement, he was discharged with some oral medication, the parents are grateful to Helpster Charity for the support given.
Prognosis
The prognosis of malaria largely depends on the species of Plasmodium, the timeliness of diagnosis, and the promptness of effective treatment. With early detection and appropriate antimalarial therapy, most patients recover fully within days to weeks without long-term complications. However, Plasmodium falciparum malaria carries a higher risk of severe outcomes such as cerebral malaria, severe anemia, kidney failure, or multi-organ damage, which can be fatal if treatment is delayed. Vulnerable groups such as children under five, pregnant women, and individuals with weak immunity face worse outcomes if not promptly managed. Overall, with proper medical care and preventive measures, the prognosis is favorable, but delayed or inadequate treatment significantly increases morbidity and mortality.
