About malaria + enteric fever
Malaria is a mosquito-borne disease caused by Plasmodium parasites. It typically starts with symptoms like fever, chills, and sweating, and may progress to severe illness affecting the brain, liver, or kidneys if not treated. It spreads rapidly in regions with high mosquito populations and inadequate health services. Prevention involves mosquito nets, insecticides, and early treatment. Enteric fever, also known as typhoid or paratyphoid fever, is a systemic infection caused by Salmonella bacteria. It spreads through contaminated food and water and presents with persistent fever, abdominal discomfort, fatigue, and sometimes a rash. Without antibiotics, it can lead to serious complications. Safe water, proper hygiene, and vaccination are key to preventing it.

Background
Hanniel was born 5 years ago, she has her only sister of 8 years. She is in her second grade in a school around their small community. She is a very smart and intelligent child. The parents are so proud she is part of their joy. One morning, Hanniel was dressed ready to trek to her school that is close by, she started having a heavy weight on her head along with nausea, her body temperature was high, and the parents became so worried as there is no money to take her to the hospital. They heard about Helpster and immediately brought her to Albishir clinic for help. On presentation at our hospital, she had complaints of fever, abdominal pain, vomiting, catarrh and cough. She was evaluated and diagnosed with Malaria and Enteric Fever.
Medical history
Hanniel was brought to Albisbir Hospital in a weak state and diagnosed with severe Malaria and enteric fever. With the support of Helpster Charity, she received urgent and intensive treatment, including antimalarial drugs, antibiotics, and supportive care. Her condition gradually stabilized, and after a few days of close monitoring, she made a strong recovery and was discharged, the doctor advised a proper nutrition for support in her recovery respectively.
Prognosis
Most patients recover well with early and appropriate treatment. However, severe forms like cerebral malaria can be life-threatening if not managed quickly. Doctors stress the importance of prompt medical attention, regular testing in endemic areas, and prevention through mosquito control and personal protection. In the case of enteric fever, with early use of effective antibiotics, recovery is usually complete within a few weeks. However, complications such as intestinal perforation or prolonged infection can arise if treatment is delayed. The doctor strongly recommend good hygiene, safe drinking water, and vaccination as key tools to prevent the spread of the disease.
