Mohammad Matabbar is a 2-month-old baby boy from Chandpur Sadar Upazila, Bangladesh, whose family is struggling to make ends meet. His father, Md Suman Matabbar, and mother, Kulsum Begum, together earn only around BDT 6,000 per month through day labor, supporting their family of eight, including a disabled daughter and other relatives. Despite their love and hope for Mohammad’s future, they cannot afford the costly treatment needed for his eye condition, which costs BDT 18,000. Without immediate intervention with Anti-VEGF injections, Mohammad’s Retinopathy of Prematurity could worsen, potentially leading to permanent blindness. This would not only shatter his future prospects but also deepen the family's ongoing hardships and despair.

Mohammad Matabbar, a 1-month-old infant, needed urgent treatment for Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) in both eyes to prevent severe vision impairment or blindness. He was treated with Anti-VEGF injections by Dr. Md Saiful Islam, ROP Specialist of the Hospital. The treatment was successful, keeping the abnormal blood vessel growth under control and improving his retinal condition. Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain, Chief Consultant, and Dr. Md. Saiful Islam, ROP Specialist at Mazharul Haque BNSB Eye Hospital, Chandpur, have examined Mohammad and confirmed that he needs immediate Anti-VEGF injections in both eyes. The doctors believe that if treated now, Mohammad’s vision can be saved and possibly restored to near normal. They stress that with prompt care, he has a high chance of leading a healthy, sighted life. This would greatly improve not only his own future but also lift the emotional burden from his already struggling family. However, if left untreated, the prognosis is devastating. The abnormal blood vessel growth can lead to total retinal detachment, resulting in complete blindness.
