Md. Sufian is a 1-month-old baby boy from Baburhat, Chandpur Sadar Upazila, Bangladesh, whose family is facing severe financial hardship. His father, Razan Gazi, has been working abroad in Qatar for the past seven months, earning only around BDT 10,000 per month, while his mother, Sukhi Begum, is a young housewife caring for Sufian and his grandparents. They live in a small two-room tin shed house with their extended family, including Sufian’s grandparents. Despite their love and hopes for his future, they cannot afford the costly treatment needed for his eye condition, which costs approximately BDT 18,000. Without urgent Anti-VEGF injections to treat his progressing Retinopathy of Prematurity, Sufian risks permanent vision loss. If he does not receive this treatment soon, he may become blind, ending his chances for a bright future and adding to the family’s ongoing struggles.

Md Sufian, a 1-month-old baby, urgently required treatment for Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) in both eyes to prevent the risk of blindness. He received Anti-VEGF injections administered by Dr. Md Saiful Islam, the hospital’s ROP Specialist. The treatment was effective, with the abnormal blood vessel growth brought under control and significant improvement observed in the retinal condition. With continued follow-up, there is strong hope that Sufian will be able to see clearly. Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain, Chief Consultant, and Dr. Md. Saiful Islam, a specialist in ROP at Mazharul Haque BNSB Eye Hospital, Chandpur, have examined Md. Sufian and confirmed the need for immediate Anti-VEGF injections in both eyes. The doctors have stated that the condition is treatable at this stage and, with timely intervention, Sufian’s eyesight can be saved. They are confident that the injections, combined with regular follow-up care, will allow him to develop normal vision and avoid lifelong disability. However, the doctors have also stressed the severe consequences if treatment is delayed. Without prompt medical care, the disease will likely progress rapidly, resulting in retinal detachment and irreversible blindness.
