Mohammad Rayhan is a bright 13-year-old boy from a rural village in Bangladesh, who dreams of exploring the world and continuing his education. His family, living in extreme poverty with a monthly income of only BDT 5,000, struggles to meet their basic needs. His father, Abdul Hossain, is a day laborer with limited work, and his mother, Farida Akter, is a housewife caring for Rayhan and his four younger siblings. They cannot afford the BDT 40,500 needed for his cataract surgery. Rayhan is a gentle and curious child who has already begun to lose vision in his left eye, putting his future and dreams at serious risk. If he does not receive the necessary surgery soon, he could become permanently blind, ending his hopes of learning and experiencing new things. His family’s limited resources and difficult circumstances make it impossible for them to provide him with the treatment he desperately needs.

Mohammad Rayhan, a 13-year-old boy, required cataract surgery in his left eye as the condition had severely affected his vision. He underwent surgery with intraocular lens implantation under general anesthesia, performed by Dr. Taslima Akter Tania, Consultant of the Hospital. The operation was successful, and his visual acuity has improved remarkably. Rayhan can now see clearly with his operated eye. According to Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain, Chief Consultant, and Dr. Rashedur Rahman Talukder, Senior Consultant at Mazharul Haque BNSB Eye Hospital, Chandpur, Rayhan requires urgent cataract surgery under general anesthesia along with IOL implantation. Both doctors have confirmed that if the surgery is done now, Rayhan’s vision in the affected eye can be restored to near normal levels, allowing him to lead a healthy and productive life. They also emphasized that early intervention is essential, especially at his age, to prevent irreversible vision loss and psychological distress. On the contrary, if Rayhan is not treated promptly, the cataract could lead to permanent blindness in the left eye, severely limiting his educational progress, social development, and future potential. The doctors have strongly advised immediate surgical intervention to save his vision and protect his mental well-being.
