Oligohydramnios is a condition characterized by an abnormally low amount of amniotic fluid surrounding the fetus in the uterus, typically defined by ultrasound measurements showing the largest pocket of amniotic fluid to be less than 1 centimeter. If left untreated or if it worsens, oligohydramnios can lead to serious complications such as fetal growth restriction, umbilical cord compression, birth trauma, and an increased risk of stillbirth. It may also cause problems during labor, including fetal distress and difficulty in delivery, which can result in life-threatening situations for both the mother and the baby.

Background
Apli Akter, a 17-year-old housewife, is 38 weeks pregnant and suffering from severe oligohydramnios, a condition where the amniotic fluid is dangerously low, putting both her and her unborn baby at high risk. Her family, led by her husband Umor Faruk, an assistant at an electrical shop earning only 7,000 Taka per month, struggles to afford the cost of an emergency cesarean section. With seven family members—including her elderly parents-in-law Siddiki Ali and Shahera Begum, and her young sisters-in-law Moriom and Marufa—living in hardship, they cannot pay for the urgent treatment needed. If the C-section is delayed, there is a serious danger of fetal distress, birth asphyxia, or even stillbirth, which could tragically endanger both mother and child's lives. The family feels helpless but hopes for help to save their precious baby and ensure Apli’s safety.
Medical history
Alpi Akter was admitted to the hospital on June 21, 2025, with a diagnosis of Oligohydramnois. On the same day, she had a successful cesarean section and gave birth to a healthy baby girl. Both mother and newborn were discharged on June 25, 2025, in good health. Her husband came to the hospital to receive her and their child. Severe oligohydramnios can indicate underlying issues and can lead to complications for both the mother and the baby, including impaired fetal lung development, limb contractures, and issues during labor and delivery. That's why is urgent need to conduct C- section. Delay in surgical intervention could result in life-threatening outcomes, including fetal demise and maternal complications.
