The child, five-year-old Soaib Islam, was diagnosed with a right-sided congenital Hydrocele. This condition occurs when a small portion of the intestine or abdominal tissue protrudes through a weak spot in the abdominal wall in the groin area. It often presents as a swelling or lump in the groin, which may increase in size when the child cries, coughs, or strains. Over time, it can cause discomfort or pain and, if left untreated, may lead to serious complications such as obstruction or strangulation of the intestine.

Background
Five-year-old Soaib Islam is a bright and playful child who dreams of becoming a teacher one day. He was diagnosed with congenital hydrocele and phimosis, conditions that cause him pain and discomfort, especially when he wants to run and play in the fields. His father’s small income from farming can barely feed their family of five, while his mother devotes herself to caring for the children, leaving no means to cover surgery costs. His sister, an eighth grader, and his little brother try to keep him cheerful, but his health limits his joy. Without timely treatment, Soaib’s condition could worsen, leading to severe complications that threaten both his childhood and his future dreams
Medical history
Five-year-old Soaib Islam was admitted to the hospital after a week of swelling and discomfort in his right groin. On 23 June 2025, the surgical team successfully performed a right-sided herniotomy to repair the hernia, along with a circumcision in the same operation. The hernia repair involved gently returning the protruding intestinal tissue to the abdominal cavity and closing the hernia sac to prevent recurrence. After surgery, Soaib was closely monitored in recovery and given medications to prevent infection, relieve pain, and support healing. He recovered well, remained cheerful, and was discharged home in good condition. Doctors noted that without surgery the hernia could have enlarged, causing intestinal strangulation, severe pain, and potentially life-threatening infection.
Prognosis
The surgeon expects an excellent outcome for Soaib. Repairing a congenital Hydrocele with a simple herniotomy is a routine pediatric procedure with a very high success rate. Once healed, Soaib should be able to play, run, and grow like any other child, with no lasting effects or limitations. Without surgery, the hernia could enlarge and the intestine might become trapped (incarcerated) in the groin. This can cut off blood supply (strangulation), leading to severe pain, intestinal damage, or a life-threatening infection that would require emergency surgery.
