Breech presentation is a condition during pregnancy where the fetus is positioned with the lower extremities or sacral region closest to the birth canal instead of the normal cephalic (head-first) position. This malpresentation increases the risk of complications during delivery, such as umbilical cord prolapse, birth trauma, fetal hypoxia, and obstructed labor. If not properly managed, breech presentation can result in significant neonatal morbidity or mortality and serious maternal complications including uterine rupture and hemorrhage.

Background
Gita Rani, a 33-year-old mother-to-be, carries her second child with a heavy heart. At 33 weeks pregnant, she faces a risky delivery—her baby is breech, and doctors warn that only a cesarean section can keep them both safe. Her husband, Dip Chandra Ray, works tirelessly as a day labourer but earns just 7,000 taka a month, barely enough to cover daily needs, let alone the urgent surgery. Living in a cramped one-room tin shed with just a bulb and fan, Gita’s world is filled with worry and hope. Without this critical operation, she risks life-threatening complications that could endanger her and her unborn child’s lives, making every passing day a race against time.
Medical history
The patient, Gita Rani, 2nd gravida at with a previous cesarean history, was admitted to City Clinic on 13th July 2025. A successful cesarean section was performed the same day, and she delivered a healthy baby. Both mother and child progressed well and were discharged on 17th July 2025 with proper postnatal advice. The patient and her family expressed heartfelt gratitude to Helpster, the dedicated volunteers, and City Clinic for their kind support and care throughout the treatment.
Prognosis
Gita Rani, at 33+ weeks of pregnancy with a history of bad obstetric outcomes, presents with a breech-positioned fetus and complaints of intermittent abdominal pain and discomfort. The obstetrician strongly recommends a cesarean section to prevent complications such as umbilical cord prolapse, fetal distress, or obstructed labor. Without timely surgical intervention, she faces a high risk of severe maternal hemorrhage, uterine rupture, and potentially fatal outcomes for both mother and baby.
