Respiratory Tract Infections (RTIs) affect the breathing passages and may be viral or bacterial, presenting with cough, congestion, and difficulty breathing. Both require timely medical care, as malaria can lead to severe complications, and untreated RTIs can progress to pneumonia or respiratory failure.

Background
Shania is 6 years old, the second child of her parents. She hail from a community of about a hundred kilometers away from the main city of Bauchi. It is considered one the poor communities. Shania is a good child. Her parents are making plans for her to attend a good school. Shania has been complaining of headache, weakness of the body as well as vomiting. On presentation at our hospital, she was evaluated and diagnosed with Malaria and Respiratory Tract Infection.
Medical history
Shania was brought to Albisbir clinic with symptoms of malaria, after the tests, result came out positive with respiratory tract infection. The doctor prescribed some antimalarials and antibiotics as well as other supportive medications. The mother appreciate Helpster for their support. The doctor reviewed Shania and he saw positive response to her treatment. After some days he was satisfied with her stable health condition and was discharged. A day for follow up was slated for her.
Prognosis
The doctor regard malaria as a dangerous yet curable disease if diagnosed early and treated promptly with antimalarial medications. RTIs are common but can become serious, especially when bacterial or affecting the lower respiratory tract, like pneumonia. Both conditions demand quick medical attention to prevent complications like organ failure or respiratory distress. Doctors emphasize prevention—using mosquito nets for malaria and good hygiene or vaccination for RTIs.
