About eyes
Cataract is a clouding of the lens inside the eye, which causes blurry vision and can make it difficult to see clearly. If not treated, cataracts can lead to complete blindness, making it impossible for a person to see anything. This can severely affect daily life, independence, and quality of life, and in some cases, blindness may become permanent if not treated in time. Cataract in children, particularly congenital cataract, is a critical and time-sensitive condition. If not treated early, it can lead to amblyopia—a condition where the brain "ignores" input from the affected eye, leading to irreversible vision loss even if surgery is done later.

Background
Nahian is a bright and cheerful 3-year-old boy full of curiosity and joy, but his vision is rapidly worsening due to Congenital Cataract in his left eye. His family lives in a small, humble home with his grandmother Monowara Begum, who is 70 years old and cannot work, and his parents—his father Md. Kamal Hossain, a farmer who sometimes works as a day laborer, and his mother Nasima Begum, a housewife. His older brother Fahim is 18 and studying in HSC class. With a monthly income of only 8,000 to 9,000 Taka, they cannot afford the BDT 40,500 needed for Nahian’s surgery. Without urgent treatment, Nahian risks losing his sight forever, which would mean a life of darkness and missed childhood adventures. His parents’ dreams for his future are slipping away because they simply cannot find the money to save his eyesight. They are desperately hoping for help to give their son a chance to see the world clearly and live a happy life.
Medical history
Md Nahian, a 3-year-old boy, was diagnosed with a cataract in his left eye, which caused blurry vision and discomfort, making it difficult for him to recognize objects and move around confidently. The treatment was essential to prevent further vision loss and ensure healthy visual development. Under the expert care of Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain Sk, Chief Consultant of the Hospital, Nahian underwent cataract surgery under anesthesia. The procedure went smoothly without any complications, and his recovery has been excellent. After the surgery, his vision improved significantly, and he can now see clearly with his operated eye. Nahian is now active, cheerful, and enjoys playing and learning again. His family is relieved and overjoyed to see him regain his sight. Prognosis
According to Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain, Chief Consultant, and Dr. Md. Rashedur Rahman Talukder, Senior Consultant at Mazharul Haque BNSB Eye Hospital, Chandpur, Md Nahian’s prognosis is highly optimistic if treated without delay. The doctors have recommended immediate cataract extraction and lens implantation, followed by regular follow-up to monitor his visual development. With timely surgery, Nahian stands a strong chance of regaining useful vision in his left eye, enabling him to play freely, learn effectively, and lead an independent life. If left untreated, however, the eye will remain functionally blind, and the damage will become permanent and irreversible.
