Travis is the firstborn and only child in his family, living with both his mother and father. He enjoys watching cartoons on TV and loves eating potatoes. While he can get upset when scolded by his parents, he is generally a cheerful and affectionate child. His father works in construction, and his mother sells samosas by the roadside to support the family. One Tuesday night, his mother noticed that Travis had developed a fever. She gave him some medication, which initially helped reduce it. However, by 5:00 a.m. the following morning, his fever had worsened. Travis was brought to the hospital with a high fever and general body weakness. Prognosis depends on the cause, severity at presentation and speed of treatment. Good prognosis if cause is nutritional deficiency and treated early and underlying infections are treated. Poor prognosis if untreated severe anemia leads to heart failure and there are severe infections
