This fluid is essential for the baby's protection, lung development, and for cushioning the umbilical cord. A severe reduction in this fluid puts the baby at immediate risk of umbilical cord compression, which can cut off oxygen and nutrient supply and potentially lead to fetal distress. This situation necessitates urgent medical intervention to ensure a safe delivery and the baby's survival.

Background
Mosammad Halima, a 30-year-old housewife expecting her third child, yearns for a better life and bright future for her two children, Sifa and Kafsin, and the baby on the way, even as she enjoys cooking and gardening. Despite her pregnancy being uneventful until labor began at 38 weeks, a harrowing 10-hour home birth attempt led her and her day-laborer husband, Riaz Hawlader, to the hospital, where an ultrasound revealed severe oligohydramnios and fetal distress. Their meager family income of 10,000 taka per month, stretched thin across six people including Riaz's elderly parents, Md. Abu and Saleha Begum (others family members), leaves them utterly unable to afford the urgent medical treatment needed for both mother and baby. Without immediate intervention for this life-threatening condition, Mosammad and her unborn child face dire consequences, jeopardizing the very future she dreams of for her struggling family and turning their fervent wish for a healthy baby into a tragic reality. Hence, they desperately appeal for assistance from Helpster heroes.
Medical history
After experiencing labor pain at 38 weeks of a viable single pregnancy, Mosammad Halima arrived at our hospital. An ultrasound revealed severe oligohydramnios and fetal distress, which made a vaginal delivery impossible. An emergency Cesarean section was promptly arranged and successfully performed, resulting in the birth of a beautiful baby girl. Both mother and baby are safe and sound, with no complications from the surgery. The patient's family expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Helpster Heroes and the hospital for their timely and effective care.
Prognosis
Based on the current presentation of a 38-week viable single pregnancy complicated by severe oligohydramnios and acute fetal distress, immediate delivery is imperative. Our primary concern is the rapid deterioration of fetal well-being due to the compromised intrauterine environment and potential cord compression. Without urgent intervention, likely via emergent Cesarean section, the prognosis for the fetus is extremely poor, with a high risk of adverse perinatal outcomes, including neurological sequelae or fetal demise. Timely action is critical to optimize maternal and neonatal outcomes.
