Background
Nur Hasan, the second child in a family of seven, is a hardworking young man who gave up his studies to support his father in farming so his younger siblings could continue school. His father is the only earning member, and the family struggles to survive in their small tin house with very limited means. Despite his dedication, Nur Hasan has been battling severe health problems and was diagnosed with a pelvic ureteric junction obstruction in his left kidney and bladder. The doctors advised surgery, but the cost is far beyond what the family can afford. Without timely treatment, his condition may worsen, leading to kidney damage and life-threatening complications, crushing both his dreams and his family’s hope for a better future
Medical history
Nur Hasan underwent a left-sided pyeloplasty to surgically correct a pelvi-ureteric junction (PUJ) obstruction and restore normal urinary flow from the kidney to the bladder. The procedure was successfully completed without any reported complications. The patient was discharged on oral medications for infection prevention, pain management, and postoperative recovery support. Recovery is expected to be favorable, with improvement in urinary function and a reduction in pain. Follow-up will be required to monitor healing and assess renal function.
Prognosis
Nur Hasam, an 18-year-old male, has been diagnosed with Pelvi-Ureteric Junction (PUJ) Obstruction, a condition where the flow of urine from the kidney to the bladder is partially or completely blocked. This condition has led to persistent symptoms including fever, lower abdominal pain, vomiting, difficulty urinating, and loin (flank) pain—all signs that his kidneys are under stress. Despite taking medications for an extended period, Nur’s symptoms have not improved significantly. The blocked kidney may become swollen (hydronephrosis), leading to permanent loss of function over time. If both kidneys are affected he may eventually require dialysis or a kidney transplant. The doctor’s prognosis emphasizes that surgical correction of the PUJ obstruction is essential and time-sensitive. Without surgery, Nur risks irreversible kidney damage and a drastically reduced quality of life.
