Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?

When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

About infections

Acute appendicitis is an inflammation of the appendix, causing pain in the lower right abdomen, along with vomiting and fever. If not treated promptly, the appendix can rupture, leading to a severe infection called peritonitis, which can be life-threatening.

Background

Shifa Khatun, a 17-year-old mother of a 1.5-year-old daughter named Shuhana, has been suffering from severe right-sided abdominal pain, fever, vomiting, and nausea for the past 10 days due to acute appendicitis. Her family, including her husband Md. Shuhag Ali, who works in a steel workshop earning only enough to support their basic needs, her 65-year-old father-in-law who is too old to work, and her 60-year-old mother-in-law who is a housewife, live in a small tin-shed house with a monthly income of just 5,000 Taka. Despite the urgent medical advice for surgery, they cannot afford the high costs and are helpless to get her the treatment she desperately needs. If Shifa does not undergo surgery soon, her condition could worsen rapidly, leading to a ruptured appendix, severe infection, or even life-threatening complications. Her family’s hope is that support from Helpster Charity can help save her life and bring her back to health.
