Mohammad Hossain, a fragile one-month-old twin, was born prematurely and is fighting for his sight, but his family cannot afford the BDT 18,000 needed for urgent treatment. His father, Billal, earns only BDT 8,000 a month as a laundryman, and his mother, Yesmin, stays at home caring for their large family in a small tin house in Dalal Bazar. Without the vital Anti-VEGF injection, Mohammad’s severe Retinopathy of Prematurity could lead to permanent blindness, stealing his chance to see the world around him. His worried family, including his 14-year-old brother Abdus Salam and 7-year-old sibling, desperately hopes for support to save his vision before it’s too late.

Mohammad Hossain, a 1-month-old baby boy, was diagnosed with Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) in both eyes — a serious condition that can lead to blindness if untreated. He received timely Anti-VEGF injections under the expert care of Dr. Md Saiful Islam, ROP Specialist of the Hospital. The treatment was successful, with the abnormal blood vessel growth now under control and the retinal condition showing steady improvement. Doctors are hopeful that Mohammad will develop normal vision as he grows. Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain Sheikh, Chief Consultant, and Dr. Md. Saiful Islam, ROP Specialist at Mazharul Haque BNSB Eye Hospital, Chandpur, have assessed Mohammad’s case and strongly advised that immediate injection therapy and regular follow-up are essential. According to their prognosis, timely Anti-VEGF treatment can successfully halt the disease and allow normal visual development. This would give Mohammad the chance to grow, go to school like his older brother, and one day contribute to his family and society. However, if treatment is delayed, the disease may lead to total vision loss—an outcome that no child should ever face, especially one so young and full of promise.
