Background
Mst Arefa Khatun is a 34-week pregnant woman with her fourth pregnancy, and her first delivery was via C-section. Her family, led by her husband Robiul Islam, a day laborer earning only BDT 8,000 per month, struggles to meet their basic needs and cannot afford the cost of a repeat C-section. Their household includes her elderly parents-in-law and young children, all living in hardship with limited resources. If Arefa does not undergo the necessary C-section, she and her unborn baby face serious risks such as uterine rupture, excessive bleeding, or even death. Without urgent surgical intervention, her life and the life of her baby are in grave danger, and the family’s financial situation makes it impossible for them to afford the treatment.
Medical history
Arefa Khatun was admitted to the hospital on August 05, 2025, with a diagnosis of Vertical Scar. On the same day, she had a successful cesarean section and gave birth to a healthy baby. Both mother and newborn were discharged on August 10, 2025, in good health. Her husband came to the hospital to receive her and their child. Prognosis
A repeat C-section is urgently required in this case due to the presence of a previous vertical uterine scar and the increased risk of uterine rupture during vaginal delivery. If the C-section is not performed, there is a high risk of uterine rupture, which can lead to severe maternal bleeding, life-threatening hemorrhage, and potential loss of both mother and baby. Delaying or avoiding the surgery could result in critical complications, including maternal death or stillbirth.
