Meltrine is a 7-month-old baby and the youngest in a family of five. She lives with her parents and two older siblings in a modest two-room mud house. Her mother is a peasant farmer, while her father, the family's main provider, does casual construction work whenever he can find it. One Wednesday evening, Meltrine’s eldest sibling had heated water for a bath and poured it into a basin. While playing with the other sibling nearby, they accidentally knocked over the basin, spilling the hot water onto Meltrine, who was sitting on the floor. Hearing the baby cry from the nearby farm, the mother rushed back to the house. Upon realizing what had happened, she immediately took Meltrine to the nearest health centre. There, the baby received first aid and was promptly referred to Siaya County Referral Hospital for further treatment.

Meltrine was brought to the hospital, having suffered burns on her back and hand. She was promptly admitted, where her wounds were dressed daily and she was administered painkillers. Her condition improved, and she started healing, and her wounds were now dressed on alternate days and were no longer as painful as before. Meltrine eventually healed and was discharged on orals and advised to visit the nearest health centre to them for the occasional dressing of the wound sites and advised to always keep it clean, Meltrin's mother confirmed that Meltrine was properly healed and was joyful and happy as she were before.

Burn can be serious and even life-threatening in certain situations. Second-degree burns involve damage to both the outer and second layers of skin, and while they often heal with proper care, complications like infection or shock can arise, particularly with larger burns or burns on sensitive areas. Prognosis for Meltrine is good.
