Malaria is a potentially life-threatening infectious disease caused by parasites transmitted to humans through the bite of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes. Once inside the human body, the parasites multiply in the liver and then infect red blood cells, causing recurrent cycles of symptoms, including high fever, chills, fatigue, and, in severe cases, organ damage or failure.This stage of the disease is defined by the evidence of vital organ dysfunction. Severe malaria occurs when infections are complicated by serious organ failures or abnormalities in the patient's blood or metabolism.

Background
Levy is a ten years old boy who would like to be an engineer when he grows up. He has been unwell for the past 3 days with headache, abdominal pain and cough; symptoms worsened this morning and he was unable to go to school. Levy likes playing football and watching football on TV.
Medical history
Levy is a diligent Grade 5 pupil who aspires to become an engineer. He enjoys playing football and watching TV. He lives with his mother and other family members in Sango Village, Bokoli Sub-location, and is the second-born in the family. This was the first time Levy had shown such symptoms, and he received treatment. He was treated on intravenous medication for malaria as an inpatient. His mother expressed relief and gratitude for the care provided, as it was her first time seeing him so unwell, and she lacked the financial means for his treatment.
Prognosis
Malaria should be treated promptly with the use of antimalarial drugs. If left untreated, it can lead to severe complications and even death. It can result in organ failure, severe anemia, neurological issues, and in some cases, prove fatal, making early diagnosis and treatment crucial for preventing these life-threatening consequences.
