Background
Mohammad, a lively 5-year-old boy from Narayanganj, has been battling severe pneumonia, causing him great distress and making it hard for him to eat or breathe properly. His father, Sohan, a day laborer earning only 6,000 BDT a month, is the sole provider for the family, which includes Mohammad’s mother Mousumi and his 8-year-old sister Sara, living together in a rented tin-shed house. Despite visiting a pediatrician who advised hospital admission, the family cannot afford the costly treatment at a tertiary hospital, leaving Mohammad’s condition dangerously untreated. Without urgent medical care, Mohammad risks worsening respiratory failure, which could be fatal. The family has now sought help from Narayanganj polyclinic and Helpster, hoping for support to save their beloved son’s life.
Medical history
Mohammad, a 2-year-old boy, was diagnosed with severe pneumonia after months of recurrent respiratory infections that worsened despite multiple antibiotic treatments from local pharmacies. His condition became critical, requiring emergency hospitalization at Narayanganj Polyclinic, where he received vital care including oxygen therapy, nebulization with salbutamol, ipratropium bromide, and budesonide, as well as injectable antibiotics and hydrocortisone to control inflammation. The treatment was closely monitored and successfully stabilized his condition, allowing him to recover and return home healthy. Mohammad was admitted on 08/07/25, received treatment, and was discharged from the hospital on 12/07/25. Mohammad’s mother expressed deep gratitude to the Helpster donors and Narayanganj Polyclinic staff, thanking them for their lifesaving support. Thanks to their timely intervention, Mohammad is now thriving, bringing immense joy and relief to his family.
Prognosis
The patient presented with severe pneumonia requiring urgent intervention to prevent life-threatening complications such as respiratory failure and sepsis. Due to challenges with intravenous access, alternative treatments including intramuscular antibiotics, nebulization, and oxygen therapy were effectively administered. Prompt management has resulted in significant clinical improvement, allowing the patient to recover and return to normal activities.
