Background
Sumaiya and her husband, Nadim Sordar, a clothing store employee who earns just 7,000 taka a month, were filled with joy and anxiety during her pregnancy. Despite her love for cooking and keeping a happy home, their severe poverty cast a dark shadow over their lives. At 37 weeks, when Sumaiya experienced severe abdominal pain and less fetal movement, they faced a devastating reality: the government hospital lacked the resources to save her and their unborn child. Without the help of Helpster Charity, their hopes for a healthy family would have been shattered, leading to a tragic loss and forever scarring them with an unbearable grief.
Medical history
Upon her last visit, 37-week pregnant Sumi Akter informed her doctor that she could not feel her baby's movement. Given her history of a previous abortion, the doctor immediately advised a cesarean section. Soon after, Sumi experienced severe abdominal pain—signs of labor—along with reduced fetal movement and per vaginal discharge. She was admitted to Narayanganj Poly Clinic, where an emergency cesarean section was performed under spinal anesthesia due to fetal distress and non-progressive labor. Sumi was admitted on 15/07/25, received treatment, and was discharged from the hospital on 18/06/25. The surgery was successful, and a healthy baby boy was delivered. Sumi is now doing well and has returned to her normal life with a smile.
Prognosis
Sumi, a patient at 37 weeks pregnant, was admitted to Narayanganj Poly Clinic due to labor pain, per vaginal discharge, and fetal distress. A cesarean section was performed under spinal anesthesia because of her non-progressive labor and the baby's distress. A healthy male baby weighing 3.2 kg was delivered and received immediate resuscitation. Both Sumi and her baby are now doing well.
