Maryam M., 18

Maryam is a hardworking woman who always tries to see her child is kept clean and she is trying to be self reliant. She presented to the hospital at Term pregnancy with complaints of headache, visual disturbance, bilateral leg swelling and severe epigastric pain. On examination, she was acutely ill looking, blood pressure - 180/110mmHg and with other signs suggestive of Pre-eclampsia which is a severe obstetrics emergency. She was managed as an emergency with Caesarean Section and medications to control Pre-eclampsia.

Maryam, an 18 year old primigravida at term presented with complaints of headache, visual disturbance, bilateral leg swelling and severe epigastric pain. She was properly evaluated and diagnosed with diagnosed with severe pre-eclampsia at term in a primigravida. She had Emergency Cesarean Section done successfully to deliver a healthy baby. Her postoperative period was satisfactory. She was later discharged home with oral medications following the improvement of her condition to complete her recovery.

Maryam is suffering from Severe Preeclampsia is an Obstetric Emergency as it is a pathway towards the development of Eclampsia which is life-threatening to both mother and fetus. When attended early and appropriately with timely delivery of the fetus, but mother and child have a favorable prognosis, but when left unattended to, it may be fatal to mother and/or fetus.
