Adama T., 18

Adama is a 18-year-old social woman, who always jokes with her husband and even her neighbors. She always tries to do some hand work in order to support her husband. Adama, a 25 weeks pregnant woman presented with complaints of Headache, body pains and severe spasms of foot muscles of hands and foot. On evaluation, she was diagnosed with severe hypocalcaemia for the mother during pregnancy can increase the risk of developing conditions such as preeclampsia, gestational hypertension, and postpartum hemorrhage. Preeclampsia is a potentially life-threatening condition characterized by high blood pressure and damage to organs such as the liver and kidneys. Severe Hypocalcaemia for the developing fetus can have quite detrimental effects on the baby's growth and development. Additionally, low calcium levels can affect the functioning of the baby's nervous system and may increase the risk of conditions like seizures.

Adama was admitted in our facility where she was managed as a case of Severe Hypocalmia in Pregnancy. She had her complete dosages of parenteral calcium supplements, Analgesmust and other supportive measures. She responded well as presenting symptoms subsided. She was later discharged home with oral medications to complete her recovery.

With appropriate treatment giving IV calcium gluconate and then followed by oral calcium supplements to replenish the body calcium store, patient has a good chance of recovery, but without treatment, patient will continue suffering from the symptoms with the tendency of developing more serious symptoms.
