Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?

When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

About eyes

ROP (Retinopathy of Prematurity) is a potentially blinding eye disorder that affects premature infants, where abnormal blood vessels grow in the retina. If not detected and treated early, the worst consequences can include retinal detachment, leading to permanent vision loss or blindness.

Background

Baby Jannat Akter, born prematurely at just 28 weeks and now diagnosed with a serious eye condition called Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP), faces the risk of losing her sight without urgent treatment. Her father, Md. Rasel, works as a laborer on river transport, earning only 8,000 BDT monthly to support their large family living in a small tin-roofed house with limited resources. Despite the parents’ deep love and hope for Jannat’s future, they cannot afford the costly anti-VEGF injections needed to save her vision. Without this treatment, Jannat could suffer permanent blindness, depriving her of the chance to experience the world and learn like her older brother Junayed. The family has turned to Helpster Charity, hoping for a miracle that will give their precious daughter the gift of sight and a brighter future.

Medical history

Jannat Akter, a 1-month-old baby girl, was diagnosed with Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) in both eyes — a serious condition that can lead to blindness if left untreated. She received Anti-VEGF injections under the expert care of Dr. Md Saiful Islam, ROP Specialist of the Hospital. The treatment progressed successfully, bringing the growth of abnormal blood vessels under control and improving her retinal health. Her recovery is promising, and there is great hope that Jannat will develop normal vision as she grows. Sincere thanks to Helpster Charity and the Helpster Heroes for making this life-changing treatment possible.

Prognosis

Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain Sheikh, Chief Consultant, and Dr. Md. Saiful Islam, ROP Specialist at Mazharul Haque BNSB Eye Hospital, Chandpur, have evaluated Jannat’s condition and confirmed that anti-VEGF injections are urgently needed to prevent irreversible blindness. With this treatment, Jannat has a high chance of recovering her vision and growing up to see, play, learn, and thrive like any other child. If left untreated, however, her condition will lead to complete and permanent loss of sight. The doctors stress that this early intervention could dramatically improve the quality of her life. Your generous support can help save Jannat’s vision and brighten her future. Please help give Jannat the miracle of sight.
