Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?

When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

About infections

Acute pharyngitis also known as a sore throat, it develops quickly and is typically caused by infection. Allergic bronchitis is a type of inflammation of the bronchial tubes (airways) triggered by allergens rather than infections. It’s often seen in people with asthma, allergic rhinitis, or other hypersensitivity conditions. Severe malaria is a life-threatening form of malaria caused most commonly by Plasmodium falciparum. It occurs when the infection leads to serious organ dysfunction, metabolic abnormalities, or very high levels of parasitemia.

Background

Felix Kibet is an 18-year-old boy residing in a Children's Home. He is currently in Form 3 and is known for being quiet and calm. In his free time, he enjoys playing football and dreams of becoming a professional footballer in the future. Felix is a total orphan with no known relatives or place of origin. He was rescued as a young child by a kind-hearted individual named Felix from a village and later taken to Baringo County Referral Hospital, where he was treated by a doctor named Kibet—this is how he came to be named Felix Kibet Seguton. He was then placed in the Children's Home, where he now lives. Felix had been in good health until about a week ago when he began experiencing symptoms including headache, fever, chills, general body weakness, runny nose, vomiting, cough, throat pain, and pain while swallowing. He was brought to Tionycare Hospital and is currently receiving medical treatment.

Medical history

Felix Kibet Seguton, an 18-year-old, was admitted to the hospital with symptoms of cough, runny nose, headache, chills, and general body weakness. Upon evaluation, he was diagnosed with acute pharyngitis, allergic bronchitis, and severe malaria. His treatment began immediately with artesunate to address the malaria, along with ceftriaxone to manage bacterial infections. To reduce inflammation caused by allergic bronchitis, he was given hydrocortisone, while paracetamol and tramadol were administered for pain and fever relief. Lacoff expectorant was used to ease his cough, and Hartmann’s solution helped restore hydration and electrolyte balance. Under close medical supervision and consistent treatment, Felix’s condition gradually improved. His fever subsided, the cough and body aches diminished, and his strength returned. After completing his course of medication, Felix made a full recovery and was discharged in good health, thankful for the care he received and ready to resume his normal life.

Prognosis

Felix's prognosis is good. He presented with acute pharyngitis, allergic bronchitis and severe malaria. Treatment was done and he is responding well. If left untreated, acute pharyngitis typically resolves quickly but can rarely cause rheumatic fever, allergic bronchitis may lead to chronic airway issues or asthma over time, and severe malaria can cause life-threatening complications with long-term neurological or organ damage in survivors.
