Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?

When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

About pulmonology

Severe pneumonia is a serious lung infection that causes inflammation and fluid accumulation in the alveoli, leading to significant respiratory distress and potentially life-threatening complications, especially in the very young, elderly, or immunocompromised individuals. Bronchospasms are sudden, involuntary contractions of the muscles in the walls of the bronchi and bronchioles, leading to narrowing of the airways, which causes difficulty breathing, wheezing, and coughing.

SDA WARWA ROAD

Background

Anthony is a 3-month-old infant from Kapkirwo village, where he lives with his parents and three siblings. His parents work as casual laborers and often face financial challenges, especially when it comes to covering medical expenses. Anthony had been in good health until five days ago, when his mother observed signs of illness, including fever, difficulty in breathing, coughing, vomiting, and diarrhea. He was also unusually irritable and cried frequently. After receiving a diagnosis and appropriate treatment, Anthony is now cheerful and showing significant improvement.

Medical history

Anthony, a 3-month-old baby boy, was brought to the hospital by his mother after she noticed he had a high fever, was vomiting, had diarrhea, and was struggling to breathe. He appeared irritable and unusually fussy, prompting immediate medical attention. He was diagnosed with severe pneumonia and bronchospasms, a combination that required urgent and comprehensive treatment. Under close supervision, Anthony was started on ceftazidime and gentamycin, two antibiotics used to fight the serious lung infection. To bring down his fever and relieve discomfort, he was given paracetamol, while Combivent nebulization helped open up his airways and ease his breathing. Due to fluid loss from vomiting and diarrhea, he was also placed on Hartmann’s solution for rehydration and electrolyte balance. Isotonic nasal drops were administered to keep his nasal passages clear and help him breathe more comfortably. Throughout his stay, Anthony’s mother remained a constant, attentive caregiver—comforting him during treatments, keeping track of his feeds, and working closely with the medical team. Her presence and care were vital to his recovery. After several days of treatment, Anthony showed marked improvement: his fever subsided, his breathing normalized, and he returned to being a cheerful, smiling baby. With his energy restored, he was no longer fussy and was discharged home in a stable, happy condition, much to his mother’s relief and joy.

Prognosis

The baby is currently in a much better condition once treated. Incase he was unable to to receive treatment, the condition can rapidly progress to respiratory failure, sepsis, and multi-organ dysfunction, which may lead to permanent lung damage, brain injury due to hypoxia or death.
