Ishaku A., 5

Ishaku is a calm child always smiling. He likes helping his mother whenever he is at home. He lives with his siblings and family in a small rented house. He likes going to school despite the economic condition of the family, however, due to his current illness he's unable to attend school. Ishaku presented a case of 2 days history of fever, body pain, loss of appetite, generalized body weakness, blurring of vision and facial swelling. Upon presentation at our hospital, Ishaku was evaluated and diagnosed with Severe Malaria and Anaemia.

Ishaku presented to our facility with history of fever, body pain, loss of appetite, generalized body weakness, blurring of vision and facial swelling. Upon presentation, he was properly evaluated and diagnosed with Severe Malaria and Anaemia. He had his complete dosages of parenteral Antimalarials, Analgesic and other medications. He also had sessions of blood transfusion to correct the anaemia. He was later discharged home with oral medications following the improvement of his condition to complete his recovery.

Ishaku is suffering from severe Malaria complicated with anemia and in need of urgent treatment. Malaria is curable with the appropriate antimalarial when started early, but when treatment is delayed or not appropriately treated, it can lead to severe complications or even death. Severe malaria as in this case has worse outcomes.
