Background
32-year-old Rina Begum is a devoted mother of two, with a third child on the way. The joy of a new baby has been overshadowed by fear, as the due date has come and gone with no sign of labor and a troubling decrease in fetal movement. Her husband, Mujibar, works tirelessly as a mason, but his monthly income of just 10,000 taka is barely enough to support their family of five, which includes their two sons and his elderly mother. The doctor's advice for an emergency C-section is a financial burden they simply cannot afford. Without your help, Rina and her unborn baby's lives are at risk. Medical history
After experiencing less fetal movement for 2 days for over 40 weeks with no labour pain, she arrived at our hospital where doctors performed an ultrasound that revealed the baby was large, with a correspondingly large head, making vaginal delivery impossible. An emergency cesarean section was promptly arranged, and the procedure was successful, resulting in the birth of a beautiful baby girl. Both the mother and the baby are safe and sound, with no complications arising from the surgery. The patient's family expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Helpster Heroes and the hospital for their timely and effective care.
Prognosis
Based on the patient's critical condition, the doctor's prognosis is that a caesarean section is a necessary intervention to prevent serious complications for both mother and baby. Leaving the condition untreated poses significant risks. The baby's large size, combined with the post-term pregnancy and decreased fetal movement, indicates potential fetal distress and can lead to a difficult and dangerous vaginal delivery. If a vaginal birth is attempted, it could result in shoulder dystocia, where the baby's shoulders get stuck after the head has delivered, potentially causing nerve damage or fractures. Without the planned C-section, the risks of birth trauma for the baby, including oxygen deprivation, and uterine rupture for the mother would be alarmingly high. Therefore, the C-section is the safest option to ensure a healthy outcome and avoid a life-threatening situation.
