Severe anemia describes a condition where there's a significantly low number of red blood cells or a low hemoglobin concentration in the blood, causing a reduced oxygen-carrying capacity. This can lead to more serious symptoms than milder anemia, such as rapid heart rate, dizziness, and pale skin and mucous membrane

Background
Jasmine is the youngest child in her family. She lives with her parents and older sibling in a single-room mud house. Both of her parents are peasant farmers with no formal employment. On a Friday afternoon, her mother noticed that Jasmine felt warm, initially assuming the fever was due to a common cold she had been experiencing. However, by evening, Jasmine's temperature had risen significantly, prompting her mother to seek medical attention and take her to the hospital.
Medical history
Jasmine was brought to the hospital with complains of fever, her lab tests revealed she was suffering from severe anemia and septicemia. She was promptly admitted for proper management where she stayed for three days. She was transfused blood and administred other medications like IV Xpen, IV paracetamol among others to which she responded well. She was finally discharged on orals like folic acid. A call to the mother revealed that Jasmine was doing okay, he was jovial and playful as he had once been before she fell sick.
Prognosis
Severe anemia, if left untreated, can lead to serious complications and even death. The prognosis depends on the cause and severity of the anemia, as well as the individual's overall health. While prompt treatment and management can improve outcomes, untreated severe anemia can cause heart problems, pregnancy complications, and multi-organ failure
