Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP): Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) is a disease that affects the eyes of premature infants, causing abnormal blood vessels to grow on the retina. which indicates significant, abnormal blood vessel growth in a critical area of the retina. This condition is a leading cause of blindness in premature babies, and without prompt medical treatment, the abnormal blood vessels can detach the retina, leading to permanent and irreversible vision loss. Early diagnosis and timely intervention are crucial to save the baby's sight.

Background
Karima Sultana is a one-month-old premature twin girl from a poor family of seven living in a small tin-roofed house in Shahrasti, Chandpur. Her father, Kabir Ahmed, once a construction laborer, can barely work after a serious back injury, and her mother, Suraiya Begum, stays home to care for Karima, her twin sister Kaifa—also born premature with ROP—their 2-year-old brother Abdur Rahman, and elderly grandparents who can no longer work. The family’s monthly income of just 6,000 taka is barely enough for food, let alone medical expenses. Despite her tiny frame, Karima is a quiet fighter, but without urgent anti-VEGF treatment, she will lose her eyesight forever, never seeing her family or the world around her. Her parents are pleading for help to save their daughter’s vision and give her a future filled with light instead of darkness.
Medical history
Karima Sultana, a 1-month-old infant, was diagnosed with Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) in both eyes, a critical condition that can cause permanent vision loss without timely intervention. She was treated with Anti-VEGF injections under the expert supervision of Dr. Md Saiful Islam, ROP Specialist of the Hospital. The treatment was carried out successfully, and the abnormal blood vessel growth has been effectively controlled. Her retinal health is improving steadily, and doctors are hopeful that Karima will enjoy normal vision in the future. Prognosis
According to the statement Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain Sheikh, Chief Consultant, and Dr. Md Saiful Islam, ROP Specialist at Mazharul Haque BNSB Eye Hospital, Chandpur, baby Karima must receive anti-VEGF intravitreal injections in both eyes without delay. If the treatment is given promptly, there is a high chance her vision can be preserved, giving her the opportunity to grow up with the ability to see, play, learn, and thrive. If left untreated, Karima could face total blindness, which would severely limit her development, education, and future independence.
