Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?

When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Background

As a child, Abubakar Abdullahi enjoyed playing football, drawing, and building things. He dreamed of becoming a professional footballer or a doctor to help his community and one day build a clinic in his village. Abubakar Abdullahi, now 21 years old, developed a serious infection called necrotizing fasciitis in his right lower leg after a minor injury. On presentation at our hospital, he was evaluated and diagnosed with Necrotizing Fascitis of the right leg, requiring urgent medical attention. The infection began with swelling, pain, and foul-smelling discharge, worsening over a few days. He was admitted to General Hospital Nguru in critical condition but responded well to emergency surgery and antibiotics. As of now, he is recovering, with significant improvement seen by the fourth day after treatment. Further wound care and follow-up are planned.

Medical history

Abubakar Abdullahi, a 21-year-old male, was admitted to General Hospital Nguru on 15th July 2025 with a severe infection in his right lower limb diagnosed as Necrotizing Fasciitis. He underwent emergency surgical wound debridement and was placed on intravenous antibiotics (Meropenem and Clindamycin), pain management, antipyretics, and daily wound care. Supportive care including fluid resuscitation and nutritional support was also provided. Thanks to prompt intervention and continuous monitoring, the patient showed significant improvement by the fourth day post-surgery. He was managed successfully and discharged in stable condition on 23rd July 2025. Special thanks to Helpster Charity for their invaluable support in facilitating the treatment process.

Prognosis

The doctor’s prognosis is that with timely treatment, Abubakar is recovering well and expected to improve with continued care. However, if left untreated, the infection could have led to sepsis, limb loss, or even death, due to its rapid and severe progression.
