Meshack O., 5

Meshack is a kindergarten pupil and the youngest of four children. He lives with his mother and three siblings in a single-room mud house. His mother has a partial mental health condition, and their father left to seek work but has never returned. The family resides within his uncle's homestead, where the uncle helps support some of their basic needs. According to the uncle, Meshack had been battling a persistent case of malaria that had not resolved despite receiving treatment at a nearby facility. On the day in question, the uncle had left the homestead without checking on Meshack’s family. Upon returning in the evening, he found Meshack extremely weak and unable to sit up. His mother, who was present, was experiencing a mental health episode and was unaware of the situation. Realizing the severity of Meshack’s condition, the uncle immediately rushed him to the hospital for urgent care.

Meshack presented to the hospital with complaints of abdominal pain, abdominal swelling, fever and coughing , yellow eyes and inability to pass stool.Tests done revealed was swollen liver and kidney. He was duly admitted and stayed in the ward for over a week. During his stay he was treated on x pen, gentamycin and other drugs. He responded well to treatment and ultrasound done revealed that his liver and kidney were normal in shape. He was then discharged on orals. A call to the family revealed Meshack was fully recuperated and had gone back to school
