Background
Fatema Begum, a 25-year-old housewife, lives with her husband Ramiz Hawladar, their young son Abu Talha, and her elderly mother-in-law Farida Begum. Ramiz works as a day laborer, earning only 9,000 taka per month, which is barely enough to cover food, school, and daily expenses, leaving nothing for medical treatment. Fatema, who loves cooking and dreams of a happy life with her family, is now facing complications in her second pregnancy, as doctors diagnosed her with fetal distress and severe oligohydramnios at 36 weeks. Without urgent treatment, her unborn child’s life is at serious risk, and even Fatema’s health could be in danger. The family’s biggest fear is losing both mother and baby simply because they cannot afford the treatment costs.
Medical history
After experiencing less fetal movement for 1 day for over 36+ weeks, she arrived at our hospital in 29/08/2025 at 6.0pm, where doctors performed an ultrasound that revealed severe oligohydro amnions with fetal distress , making vaginal delivery impossible. An emergency cesarean section was promptly arranged, and the procedure was successful, resulting in the birth of a beautiful baby girl. Both the mother and the baby are safe and sound, with no complications arising from the surgery. We discharged the Patient in 01/09/2025 at 10.30am.The patient's family expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Helpster Heroes and the hospital for their timely and effective care.
Prognosis
Given the patient's condition, the doctor's prognosis emphasizes the necessity of close monitoring and timely intervention to ensure a safe outcome. If the severe oligohydramnios is left unaddressed, the risk of the umbilical cord becoming compressed increases dramatically, which can cut off the baby's vital oxygen and nutrient supply and lead to fetal distress, brain damage, or even stillbirth. The doctor's treatment plan will likely involve careful fetal monitoring and a decision on the safest time and method of delivery, which, given the previous C-section, will likely be a planned cesarean section.
