Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?

When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

This blockage causes sudden, severe pain, often in the bones, chest, back, or joints. Crises can be triggered by infections, dehydration, cold temperatures, or stress, and may require urgent medical treatment to manage pain and prevent complications.

Background

Peter is a 19-year-old boy from a modest rural background, the second of five children. He lives with his mother, who works as a casual laborer on neighboring farms, earning approximately KSh 3,000 per month to support the family, including school fees and basic needs. Peter is a hardworking and motivated student in Grade 9 at a local day school, aspiring to become an engineer. He is a known sickle cell patient and recently presented to the facility with generalized body pain, particularly affecting his lower back, chest, and joints. He had experienced a similar crisis two months prior. Upon assessment, he was provided with medication that successfully managed his symptoms.

Medical history

Peter is a sickle cell client and came to the facility diagnosed with painful crisis ,he was admitted given painkillers, antibiotics and rehydrating fluids and his pain was reduced later was discharged when he was stable and active and this made him acknowledge Helpster Charity Organization for giving him treatment that peter has never received before.

Prognosis

Peter’s prognosis is good with prompt and appropriate management. With regular follow-up, adherence to medications, hydration, and avoidance of known triggers, he is expected to recover fully from this painful crisis.
