Hajara S., 1

Hajara is the 6th child of her mother and the 13th of her parents. She is yet to be enrolled into school. Her father is a mechanic while the mother sells groundnut in their street. When the child was born, it was observed that she does not have an abuse. She was passing stool from her private organ. When it was discovered she was sent to Barau dikko but they said they did not have the facility to attend to her so they were referred to another Government hospital in Zaria to run some tests and come fir surgery but they do not have the money for any of the treatment so they went home and was managing the child until someone told them about Helpster and they came to get help. Upon presentation, it was discovered that she has Anorectal malformation- (Imperforated Anus) She is being worked up for posterior sagittal ano rectoplasty (PSARP) as a surgical intervention , however, will require investigations including: Sacral. Posterior anterior and Lateral X- ray, abdominal ultrasound scan , blood work up(FBC, U/E/Cr),Grouping and cross matching of 1 unit of blood.

When Hajara first arrived at the hospital, she was just a few minths old. She was moody, crying almost nonstop, and her tiny face looked sad and uncomfortable. She had been born with *imperforate anus* — no opening for stool to pass. Her mother was scared and helpless, watching her baby struggle with no money to get the intervention she needs. After examination, the pediatric surgical team explained that Hajara needed a *PSARP (Posterior Sagittal Anorectoplasty)* — a reconstructive surgery to create a properly positioned anus. The surgery was done successfully. The days that followed were not easy. Hajara was admitted for about 10 days. She received antibiotics to prevent infection and had regular wound dressing to keep the surgical site clean and healing well. The nurses and doctors watched her closely, and her mother never left her side. Then came the moment everyone prayed for: Hajara passed stool through her new anus. Not once, but multiple times, without pain or complications. The ward lit up with relief and joy. By day 10, the pediatric surgeon examined her and certified her fit for discharge. The difference was night and day. The same baby who came in moody and crying was now leaving the hospital happy, smiling, and full of life. Her eyes were bright, her little hands grasping at her mother’s wrapper. Her mother couldn’t hold back tears — this time, tears of joy. She kept saying “Thank you” over and over to Helpster Charity for the gracious work done for them. What felt impossible weeks ago had become a testimony. Today, Hajara gets to grow up like any other child, all because of timely surgery, dedicated medical care, and the support that made it possible.

Due to patients condition there's an urgent need for intervention as the condition predisposes her to recurrent UTI, risk of obstruction and psychological torment for patient and family. The condition is totally salvageable with surgical intervention and she will hopefully recover excellently and grow as every normal child
