Zara Adam was diagnosed with Malaria with Enteric fever, a combined infection presenting with high fever, chills, headache, weakness, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, and fatigue due to Plasmodium parasites and Salmonella typhi. She also had Acute Respiratory Tract Infection (ARTI), characterized by cough, nasal congestion, sore throat, mild difficulty in breathing, and fever, requiring prompt medical attention and supportive care.

Background
Zarah Adam is a playful 2 year old girl living with her parents and three siblings. She is full of energy, often giggling and running around with her brothers and sisters in their small home. Zarah began showing signs of illness with high fever, body aches, and general weakness, along with persistent cough and catarrh. Her condition quickly worsened, leaving her lethargic and unable to play or eat properly. Despite trying local medications at home, her symptoms did not improve. Concerned for her well-being, her parents promptly took her to Nakowa to seek proper medical care and support, hoping for timely treatment to restore her health. Upon presentation at our hospital, and after further evaluation, she was diagnosed with Malaria + Enteric fever and URTI
Medical history
Zarah was promptly treated at Nakowa after presenting with high fever, body pain, weakness, cough, and catarrh. Her treatment included Amoxicillin syrup to fight bacterial infection, Lonart and Piriton syrups to relieve respiratory symptoms and allergies, Emzolyn syrup for immune support, and Vitamin C to aid overall recovery. Paracetamol, given both orally and via injection, helped reduce fever and ease body aches, while Emal injections were administered to address malaria symptoms. Sterile syringes were used for all injections, ensuring safe and effective care.Over the course of treatment, Zarah’s fever subsided, her cough and catarrh improved, and she regained strength and energy. She returned to her usual playful and cheerful self, able to interact with her siblings and participate in daily activities. Thanks to the timely medical intervention and support of Helpster Charity, Zarah made a full recovery, bringing relief and joy to her family.
Prognosis
With early diagnosis and prompt, appropriate treatment, Malaria with Enteric fever and ARTI in Zara Adam generally have a favorable prognosis. Most patients respond well to antimalarials, antibiotics, supportive therapy, and hydration, achieving full recovery without lasting complications. However, delayed or inadequate management increases the risk of serious complications, including severe anemia, septicemia, dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, persistent respiratory distress, and systemic infections, which can prolong illness and affect overall health outcomes.
