Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Pneumonia is a serious respiratory infection that causes inflammation of the air sacs (alveoli) in one or both lungs. These air sacs may fill with fluid or pus, leading to symptoms such as cough (often with phlegm), fever, chills, chest pain, shortness of breath, and fatigue. It can be caused by bacteria, viruses, or fungi, with bacterial pneumonia (commonly caused by *Streptococcus pneumoniae*) being one of the most frequent types. Pneumonia ranges in severity from mild to life-threatening, particularly affecting infants, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems. If left untreated, it can lead to complications such as lung abscess, respiratory failure, or sepsis. Treatment typically involves antibiotics for bacterial cases, antiviral or antifungal medications when appropriate, and supportive care such as rest, fluids, and oxygen therapy if needed. Early diagnosis and proper treatment are crucial for full recovery.

Background
Victor Kipkoech is a 15-year-old boy residing at a Children’s Home, where he was admitted following child neglect. He was born to an alcoholic mother, and his father is unknown. Victor is currently in Grade 9 at and aspires to be a leader in the future. Sunrise Children’s Home came to know of Helpster through a site visit by Tionycare Hospital in collaboration with Helpster’s volunteer, Vincent. Victor remained well until 3 days ago when he developed fever, cough, chest pain and a runny nose. He was assessed, diagnosed with pneumonia.
Medical history
Victor Kipkoech, a 15-year-old boy, began feeling unwell with symptoms of body hotness and a running nose. As his condition worsened, he was taken to the hospital where he was diagnosed with pneumonia. The doctors immediately began treatment with a combination of medications: ceftriaxone and amoxiclav to fight the bacterial infection, hydrocortisone to reduce lung inflammation, paracetamol to manage the fever, and Lacoff expectorant to help clear mucus from his chest. During the first few days, Victor remained weak and fatigued, but with proper care, rest, and strict adherence to his medication schedule, he began to show signs of improvement. His fever dropped, the cough reduced, and his energy gradually returned. After completing his treatment, Victor fully recovered and was able to return to his normal activities, grateful for the timely medical care that helped him overcome the illness.
Prognosis
Victor’s prognosis is good. Since his pneumonia was identified early and promptly treated, he is already showing improvement and is expected to make a full recovery with continued adherence to his medications.
