Background
Zara is 17 years old, the oldest in her family, and a student. She's a wonderful, happy girl who enjoys braiding hair and watching movies. Her big dream is to become a nurse one day. Around 2 months ago, she began having pain in her belly, urine with blood, fever, and it hurt when she went to the bathroom. They checked her for a kidney stone on her left side using a KUB test.
Medical history
Zara was diagnosed with a left renal stone and admitted for surgery on December 17, 2023. The surgery was successful, and she received the necessary postoperative medication. Zara was discharged on December 20, 2023.
Prognosis
The presence of a kidney stone and the associated hydronephrosis can lead to persistent and worsening pain, often requiring pain management. Hydronephrosis may progress to a higher grade, causing more significant swelling and potential damage to the kidney.Stagnant urine in the swollen kidney can become a breeding ground for bacteria, increasing the risk of kidney infections. Over time, the obstruction and associated kidney swelling can impair kidney function, potentially leading to chronic kidney disease. Various medical procedures can be used to manage the kidney stone, such as extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) to break the stone into smaller fragments, or ureteroscopy and laser lithotripsy to remove or break up the stone.
