Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?
When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

About blood
Severe anemia describes a condition where there's a significantly low number of red blood cells or a low hemoglobin concentration in the blood, causing a reduced oxygen-carrying capacity. This can lead to more serious symptoms than milder anemia, such as rapid heart rate, dizziness, and pale skin and mucous membrane. Severe malaria, a life-threatening complication of malaria infection, is characterized by organ dysfunction, including impaired consciousness, seizures, circulatory collapse, and respiratory distress. Other key features include severe anemia, metabolic acidosis, acute kidney injury, and abnormal bleeding or disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC). Early and aggressive treatment is crucial for survival. Septicemia is bacteria in the blood (bacteremia) that often occurs with severe infections. Also called sepsis, septicemia is a serious, life-threatening response to an infection that may get worse very quickly.

Background
Benson is the only child of his mother and lives with her, his grandparents, and a cousin in a two-room mud house. The grandparents are the family’s main providers, sustaining the household through small-scale farming. The family learned about Helpster Charity through the hospital’s social work office. According to his mother, one day she noticed Benson sweating profusely despite the cold weather. He also developed a cough and complained of stomach pain. She gave him paracetamol, but by the next day there was no improvement, and she observed his tongue and lips had turned whitish. She took him to a nearby health facility, from where he was referred immediately to Siaya County Referral Hospital.
Medical history
Benson was brought to the hospital complaining of fever, coughs and a stomach ache . His lab results revealed he was suffering from severe anaemia, severe malaria and pneumonia. This warranted admission to the ward . In the ward he was transfused blood , administered IV X-pen, IV getamycin, IV artesunate among other drugs. He was tolerant to the drugs and responded well. He was later discharged on orals . A call to his mother and grandparents revealed that he was recuperated and was happy , jovial and playful
Prognosis
Benson was diagnosed with severe malaria and severe anaemia. His prognosis is cautiously good since he was referred promptly to a higher-level facility where he received appropriate treatment, including antimalarial therapy and blood transfusion. He is expected to recover well with continued care and follow-up, though close monitoring is needed to prevent future relapses and manage the risk of recurrent anaemia.
