Background
Zakariya Muhammed Auwal is a playful and imaginative 4-year-old who enjoys drawing, playing with toy cars, and listening to stories. He dreams of becoming a doctor to help others and hopes to have a farm with animals in the future. Zakariya developed persistent itching that started five days before his hospital visit, especially at night. His caregivers noticed rashes on his hands, trunk, and groin, and similar symptoms were found among family members. He was diagnosed with scabies, a skin condition caused by mites.
Medical history
Zakariya Muhammed Auwal, a 4-year-old boy, was admitted to General Hospital Nguru on 4th August 2025 with a diagnosis of Scabies (Mange). He was treated with Permethrin 5% cream, oral antihistamines, and emollients, along with hygiene education and household management to prevent reinfection. The patient responded well to treatment, with significant improvement observed within 72 hours. He was discharged in stable condition on 7th August 2025. Special thanks to Helpster Charity for their continued support in ensuring access to care and treatment for children like Zakariya.
Prognosis
The doctor expects Zakariya to recover fully with proper treatment, which has already shown positive results. However, if left untreated, the scabies could worsen, lead to skin infections, and continue spreading to others in the household.
