About malaria + enteric fever
Malaria and enteric fever are common tropical illnesses that often present with overlapping symptoms such as prolonged fever, weakness, headache, loss of appetite, and body pains, making diagnosis challenging. Malaria, caused by Plasmodium parasites transmitted by the female Anopheles mosquito, typically features cyclical fever, chills, and sweating, while enteric fever, caused by Salmonella typhi/paratyphi through contaminated food or water, often manifests with step-ladder fever, abdominal discomfort, and sometimes diarrhea or constipation. Both conditions, if untreated, may lead to severe complications, but with timely diagnosis and appropriate therapy—antimalarials for malaria and antibiotics for enteric fever. Aisha was presented with the complain of catarrh/runny nose, fever, cough, right ear pain, vomiting everything and abdominal pain.

Background
Aisha is 7 years old, the second among 4 children. She is living with her parents. She is not in any school at the moment as the parents cannot afford to take her to school. The father does not have a job at the moment and the mother is a house wife. They live in 2 rooms appartement and a toilet separately from the house. Aisha who is a 7 year old female girl started having catarrh/runny nose, fever, cough, right ear pain, vomiting everything and abdominal pain. She remained inactive for some days, the mother doesn't have the means to take her to the hospital, they got the news about Helpster Charity and they came to Albishir Clinic to be evaluated. Upon presentation and evaluation, she was diagnosed with Malaria and Enteric fever
Medical history
Aisha who is a 7 years old female presented with catarrh/runny nose, fever, cough, right ear and vomiting everything. Some tests and examinations were run and result revealed malaria and enteric fever. She was admitted and placed on steady medications for 4 days with some antimalarials and antibiotics as well as other supportive care. She became stable, no more abdominal pain, fever and catarrh. She was discharged with some take home drugs, the mother appreciate Helpster Charity for the support given.
Prognosis
Aisha was given the correct and appropriate treatment, the prognosis of malaria and enteric fever is generally favorable, as most patients achieve full recovery without long-term effects. However, delayed diagnosis or inadequate therapy can lead to complications such as severe anemia, cerebral malaria, intestinal perforation, or relapse. Overall, early medical intervention and good supportive care significantly improve outcomes and reduce the risk of mortality.
