Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?

When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Background

Meshack is the last born in his family. He lives with his parents and two siblings in a two-room mud house. His parents work as casual laborers, relying on tilling other people’s land to provide for the family. The family learned about Helpster Charity while at the hospital. According to the mother, one evening after supper, Meshack felt unusually hot, so she laid him down to rest. At around 10:00 pm, he began crying continuously. By 3:00 am, he had not stopped crying and was unable to either sit or stand. At dawn, his parents rushed him to a nearby health facility, carrying his previous clinical notes. After assessment, Meshack was immediately referred to Siaya County Referral Hospital for further management.

Medical history

Meshack was brought to the hospital with history of fever, difficulty in breathing. His lab results showed low blood levels. He was diagnosed with severe anemia due to sickle cell disorder, this warranted admission and he stayed in the ward for over three days. He was transfused blood and administered IV X-pen,folic acid , burden among other drugs to which he was tolerant. He was eventually discharged on orals with a follow up clinic set up for after two weeks. A call to the mother revealed he was recuperated and was able to play like he used to before

Prognosis

With a diagnosis of severe anaemia in sickle cell disease, Meshack’s prognosis is guarded but hopeful. Severe anaemia in sickle cell can be life-threatening if not promptly managed; however, receiving care at Siaya County Referral Hospital significantly improved his chances of recovery. Meshack has a good chance of stabilization and recovery. Long-term, he will require consistent follow-up, nutritional support, preventive care, and adherence to sickle cell management to reduce the risk of future crises and complications.
