Zainab Ibrahim is a 20-year-old young woman living with her four siblings and three relatives in a one room and parlor apartment in Gwange area of Maiduguri. As the first child, she plays a vital role in supporting and caring for her younger siblings. Zainab developed high intermittent fever, chills, headache, and body weakness, followed by abdominal discomfort, nausea, and loose stools. Shortly after, she began having burning upper abdominal pain, heartburn, nausea, lower abdominal pain, backache, abnormal vaginal discharge, and low-grade fever. Her eyes later became red, itchy, and watery, with a gritty sensation, sticky eyelids, and sensitivity to light. She tried local medication at home, but her condition did not improve until she was taken to Nakowa for medical help. Upon presentation at our hospital, and after further evaluation she was diagnosed with Malaria + Enteric , PUD + PID ,Conjunctivitis.

Zainab Ibrahim was referred to Nakowa with complaints of persistent fever, stomach pain, eye redness, and general body weakness. After laboratory investigations including MP, WIDAL, PCV, H. pylori, and HVS MCS, she was diagnosed with malaria with enteric fever, peptic ulcer disease (PUD), pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), and conjunctivitis. She was placed on a comprehensive treatment plan that included Lonart Ds bd for 3 days, Amoxicillin 500mg tds for 1 week, Omeprazole 20mg bd for 1 week, Flagyl 400mg tds, Fluconazole 200mg daily for 5 days, Paracetamol 500mg tds, Gestid syrup 10mls bd for 3 days, and Chloramphenicol eye drops bd for 5 days. In addition, she received supportive injections of Emal 150mg daily for 3 days and paracetamol 600mg to manage fever and pain. With treatment, her fever settled, her stomach pain and pelvic discomfort eased, and the redness in her eyes cleared. On follow-up, Zainab reported feeling much stronger and was able to resume her normal activities without difficulty. Smiling with relief, she said, “Thank you, Helpster, for being there for me in my time of need and for restoring my health.”

With early diagnosis and proper treatment, Zainab Ibrahim’s condition of Malaria with Enteric Fever, Peptic Ulcer Disease (PUD) with Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID), and Conjunctivitis had a good prognosis. She was placed on appropriate medications that controlled her fever, relieved her abdominal pain, and cleared her eye infection. With adequate rest, proper nutrition, and adherence to her prescribed drugs, her strength gradually returned, and her symptoms subsided completely. However, if treatment had been delayed, the combined infections could have led to severe complications such as anemia, gastrointestinal bleeding, chronic pelvic pain, or vision problems.
