Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?

When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Background

Mildred is the only child of her parents, living together in a single-room mud house. Her mother is unemployed while her father takes on plumbing jobs whenever opportunities arise. They came to know about Helpster Charity during a hospital visit. According to the mother, Mildred first developed body rashes. She tried treating them with herbs, but the condition worsened. They later visited a nearby chemist, where they received ointments that helped the rashes dry up. However, Mildred’s feet and eyes became swollen to the point that she could no longer see, prompting them to rush her to the hospital.

Medical history

Mildred was brought to the hospital with rashes and swolen feet and eyes. She was diagnosed with severe acute malnutrition and septicemia. She was promptly admitted for management and nutritional therapy. She was also administered IV Gentamycin, x-pen albendazole and other drugs to which she was tolerant . She responded well to treatment and even gained weight. Her mother was taken through a nutritional class and she was duly discharged home with a follow up to be done after two weeks. A call to her parents frevealed that Mildred was doing okay, was gaining weight and could be able to play with her toys.

Prognosis

Mildred was diagnosed with severe acute malnutrition and septicemia. Her prognosis is good, having been referred to a higher-level facility where she accessed specialized nutritional support, therapeutic feeding, and close monitoring, and her chances of recovery are very good. However, she will require long-term follow-up, continuous nutritional rehabilitation, and close support from caregivers to prevent relapse.
