Virginia O., 10

Virginia is a 10-year-old girl, the second-born in a family of three, and currently a Grade 3 pupil at a local primary school. She is a dedicated learner who wakes up early each day to prepare for class, with a passion for reading storybooks and drawing. While she dreams of becoming a teacher, she also aspires to become a doctor in the future. She is a known sickle cell patient and has been diagnosed with anemia. A day before admission, Virginia began feeling unwell and lost her appetite, which led her family to seek medical attention. She was started on treatment but has since presented with a sickle cell crisis, fever, jaundice (yellowish eyes), and general body weakness. Because of her condition, she has been unable to attend school for the past two weeks.

Virginia, a known patient living with sickle cell disease, was diagnosed with severe anaemia and severe pneumonia. She received appropriate treatment, including antibiotics and medication to support recovery from anaemia. Once her condition had improved and she was considered stable, she was discharged to continue treatment and recovery at home. Virginia and her family expressed their sincere appreciation to Helpster Charity for supporting her medical care at no cost to the family. During a follow-up phone call, her caregiver confirmed that Virginia is recovering well, taking her medication as prescribed, and has continued to show improvement since leaving the hospital.

She was diagnosed with anaemia secondary to sickle cell given drugs and she was responding positively and if this treatment could have not done on time patient could have developed other conditions,she was also given advise to attend sickle cell clinic every month.
