When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

About infections
Severe malaria is a life-threatening medical emergency caused by the Plasmodium falciparum parasite that occurs when the infection is complicated by serious organ failures or profound metabolic abnormalities, such as cerebral malaria, severe anemia, or acute respiratory distress syndrome. Malaria is a parasitic disease spread by female Anopheles mosquitoes, presenting with fever, chills, sweats, headache, and weakness. It can progress to severe illness with anemia, organ failure, or cerebral malaria if untreated. The presenting complain for Simon was having high body temperature 38 degrees Celsius and of course fever, he has been vomiting everything as well as having abdominal pains.

Background
Simon recently turned 5. He is the 2nd child of his parents, The father is a farmer and the mother is a petty trader in their small community. Every day, they work so hard to put food on their tables. Simon is currently attending a government primary school. He was unable to go to school for 3 days due to fever, headache and abdominal pains, his body temperature became so high. He was only given paracetamol syrup but there was no improvement with his health condition. A family member told them about Helpster Charity, they visited Albishir Clinic and Maternity for proper checkup. Upon presentation at our hospital, and after further evaluation, Simon was diagnosed with Severe Malaria ++ (severe).
Medical history
Simon a 5yo was unable to go to school for 3 days due to fever, headache and abdominal pains, his body temperature became so high. He was only given paracetamol syrup but there was no improvement with his health condition. A family member told them about Helpster Charity, they visited Albishir Clinic and Maternity for proper check up. Upon presentation at our hospital, and after further evaluation, Simon was diagnosed with malaria fever and was managed with injection antimalarials, injection antibiotics and other supportive care until he was stable, no more complaints of headache and abdominal pains. He was discharged with some drugs for home treatment. The family remains grateful for the support.
Prognosis
Early diagnosis and prompt treatment lead to good recovery, while prevention with mosquito control and protective nets is key. His sample was taken and revealed malaria ++ (severe). As threatening as it was he was immediately placed on some antimalarials and antibiotics. This is a life saving for Simon. The child is expected to recover fully within 3 to 5 days. Delayed therapy or poor medication adherence may lead to severe malaria with complications such as anemia or cerebral involvement. Regular monitoring and preventive measures are strongly advised.
