Background
Godwin is a 7-year-old boy living in a children’s home, which relies entirely on the support of well-wishers. He was abandoned by the roadside at the age of four and rescued by a Good Samaritan, who reported the case to the police before he was placed in the home. Godwin enjoys singing and dancing and dreams of becoming a lawyer in the future. Recently, Godwin fell ill and developed generalized body rashes lasting two days. Despite being given oral medication at the home, there was no improvement. His condition worsened with bilateral eye pain, difficulty swallowing, and a productive cough. He was taken to Rheemah Hospital.
Medical history
Godwin presented with bilateral eye discharge, a dry non-productive cough, skin rashes on his back, difficulty breathing, shortness of breath, and painful swallowing. He was evaluated at Rheemah Hospital by the attending medical doctor and was diagnosed with acute conjunctivitis and acute upper respiratory tract infection. Prompt treatment was initiated, and Godwin responded well to the prescribed medications. He was discharged home on the same day after clinical improvement. Feedback from his guardian later confirmed that he recovered well and has since returned to school to continue his studies.
Prognosis
Doctors generally have a positive outlook on URI prognosis, with most cases resolving on their own within 1-3 weeks. However, vulnerable populations (older adults, young children, immunocompromised individuals) and those with underlying conditions may face complications. Prompt treatment and monitoring can improve outcomes.
