Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?

When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

About malaria +enteric fever

Malaria is a mosquito-borne infection caused by Plasmodium parasites, presenting with fever, chills, sweating, and body weakness, and can lead to severe anemia or organ complications if untreated. Enteric fever, caused by Salmonella typhi/paratyphi through contaminated food or water, manifests as prolonged fever, abdominal pain, diarrhea or constipation, and systemic toxicity. Sadiq presented with same symptoms and was diagnosed as revealed by test results. He was admitted and placed on steady medications and supportive care to mitigate the infection.

Background

Sadiq is 3 years old and, the 3 child among 4 children. He lives with his parents, father is a labourer and the mother is a house wife. He is not enrolled in school because there is no money to pay his school fees, the parents wishes to take him to school as soon as the means is acquired. They live in a 2 rooms rented apartment, source of water is a well, and partial availability of electricity. He became weak and inactive, saying his head feels heavy on him, high body temperature, fever and chills as well as abdominal pain. Though paracetamol was given, there is still no positive changes with his condition. As they were looking for help, a fellow told them about Helpster Charity and immediately they made way for Albishir Clinic to be supported by Helpster Charity. On presentation to our hospital, Sadiq was evaluated and investigations done revealed a diagnosis of Malaria and Enteric Fever.

Medical history

Sadiq is a 3-year olf boy who presented to our hospital very sick. He was evaluated and investigated with a diagnosis of Malaria and Enteric Fever. He was admitted for three days and given injection antibiotic's and injection antimalarial. After some improvement, as fever stopped, he was discharged home with oral antibiotic's and antimalaria. The parent was happy and grateful to Helpster Charity.

Prognosis

With timely diagnosis and correct treatment, the prognosis of malaria and enteric fever is generally favorable, and most patients recover fully. However, untreated or delayed malaria may progress to severe complications such as cerebral malaria, severe anemia, or organ failure, while untreated enteric fever can lead to intestinal perforation, hemorrhage, or chronic carriage. In regions with drug resistance or poor access to healthcare, both diseases carry higher risks of morbidity and mortality, but preventive measures like mosquito control, safe water, sanitation, and vaccination for typhoid greatly improve outcomes
