Aisha A., 13

Aisha is a calm girl who lives with her patients. She likes going to school but has been unable to go for a while due to her condition. She wants to become a nurse in the future. Parents are not financially buoyant as father is a small scale farmer who farms to support the family and mother is not employed. They were said to have spent the little they have during the first surgery she had. On presentation at our facility, it was shown that Aisha who had explorative laparotomy recently indicated by Typhoid Ileal Perforation developed surgical site discharge and wound breakdown, fever, abdominal pain, distension and constipation again. She is critically ill and requires urgent medical attention.

Aisha, a young girl who had surgery somewhere on account of Typhoid ileal Perforation presented to us with complaints of discharge from the surgical site, wound breakdown, fever, abdominal pain, distension and constipation. After proper evaluation, she was diagnosed with generalized peritonitis secondary to re-perforation and wound break down. She had surgical re-exploration done successfully where the defect was identified and necessary intervention was instituted, surgical site was also repaired. As the treatment progressed, she responded well as evidenced by improvement of her admitting symptoms. She was then discharged home with oral medications to complete her recovery.

Aisha is a young girl who is suffering from a perforated Typhoid and wound breakdown, sepsis and she is critically ill. Typhoid ileal Perforation is treated by explorative laparotomy with repair or resection and anastomosis where the affected part of the bowel is identified, repaired or respected if it's damaged beyond repair. Adequate and appropriate post operative care like appropriate resumption of oral sips, adequate surgical wound care and nutritional rehabilitation is essential in the management of this condition. When appropriately managed, patient is cured and resumes normal activities. However, when treatment is delayed or abandoned it can lead to the loss of the patient or serious complications.
