Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?

When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Background

Baby Anisa Akter, just one month old, is the precious light of her poor family in Raipur, Lakshmipur, bringing endless joy and hope to her parents despite her fragile health. Her father, Md. Al Amin, earns only 6,000 BDT a month as a mason’s helper, while her mother, Eiti Moni, manages their tiny tin-made home, leaving no way to cover costly medical expenses. The family is already burdened with debt after selling land and borrowing money to pay for her NICU care and blood transfusions after birth. Now diagnosed with Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) in both eyes, Anisa urgently needs Anti-VEGF injections to prevent permanent blindness. Without treatment, this adorable baby risks losing her eyesight forever, shattering her parents’ dream of seeing her grow up healthy and go to school like other children.

Medical history

Anisa Akter, a 1-month-old baby girl, required urgent care for Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) in both eyes to prevent permanent damage to her vision. She was treated with Anti-VEGF injections by Dr. Md Saiful Islam, ROP Specialist of the Hospital. The treatment has been effective, as the abnormal blood vessel growth is now under control and her retinal condition has shown marked improvement. With continuous follow-up, there is strong hope that Anisa will grow up with clear vision. Heartfelt thanks to Helpster Charity and the Helpster Heroes for their invaluable support in restoring her eyesight.

Prognosis

According to Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain Sheikh, Chief Consultant, and Dr. Md. Saiful Islam, ROP Specialist at Mazharul Haque BNSB Eye Hospital, Chandpur, Anisa requires immediate Anti-VEGF injections in both eyes to stop the progression of ROP. The doctors believe that if the treatment is done in time, her vision can be saved, and she will be able to grow up seeing the world around her. However, if delayed or left untreated, the disease will progress rapidly and cause irreversible blindness in both eyes. With timely support, this life-saving treatment can give Anisa a bright future and prevent her from a lifetime of darkness.
