Dominic's dad passed away three years ago, and now he lives with his mom, who is a widow. He's in the sixth grade and will be taking his exams this year to move on to junior high school. Dominic enjoys swimming and watching movies. When he grows up, he dreams of becoming a doctor. Lately, he came to the hospital because he's been experiencing really bad stomach ache, and he's been having loose stools from time to time.

Dominic, currently in Grade Six, is preparing for his upcoming exams to transition to junior high school. He lives with his mother, who has been a widow since his father passed away three years ago. He loves swimming and watching movies and dreams of becoming a doctor when he grows up. Recently, Dominic was brought to the hospital with severe abdominal pain, diarrhea, occasional vomiting, body weakness, and joint pain. Diagnosed with amoebiasis, he appeared ill and dehydrated upon arrival. Initially treated as an outpatient, his condition required inpatient care, including IV fluids and medication. After receiving treatment and showing significant improvement, Dominic was discharged in better health.

Untreated amoebiasis can result in the parasite spreading from the intestines to other parts of the body, potentially affecting the liver, lungs, or brain. The most common extraintestinal complication is the formation of an amoebic liver abscess. This can lead to severe pain in the upper right side of the abdomen, fever, and sometimes jaundice. In rare cases, amoebiasis can cause the intestinal wall to perforate (develop a hole), leading to peritonitis, a life-threatening condition involving infection of the abdominal cavity. Treatment for amoebiasis typically involves medications, such as metronidazole or tinidazole, to kill the parasite.
